Research focus

This is an invitation to enquire about potential research opportunities in the Phi-X Lab. It is not a guaranteed place: any placement is subject to individual agreement. The lab works on biophotonics and computational imaging, including digital holographic microscopy, quantitative phase imaging and optical tomography. Prospective students are considered individually, depending on their interests, preparation and the lab’s supervision capacity. Before you write, look through the lab’s website and explain in your email which aspects of the research interest you. International enquiries could be considered; participation depends on the project and on university, admissions and travel requirements.

The details

Role: Not a set role. An invitation to enquire about potential research opportunities.
Age range: Primarily undergraduate, MSc and PhD students. Opportunities for younger students need separate consideration.
In person or remote: Experimental projects are in person at the lab in Istanbul. Remote participation could be considered for suitable computational projects, such as image processing, numerical simulations and computational reconstruction.
Pay: Financial support is discussed for each opportunity. Do not assume a salary or stipend.
Hours per week: Agreed individually, around the project and your academic commitments
When you can work: Semester or summer, depending on availability and project length
Application deadline: No fixed date. Email to ask about current opportunities. Formal MSc and PhD applications follow the university’s admissions calendar.
Prior experience needed: Helpful but not necessarily required. Relevant coursework, motivation and a willingness to learn matter. Python or MATLAB skills are useful for computational projects.

Co-authorship possible: Depends on your actual contribution to publishable research, assessed individually.
Independent project (science fair or JSHS): Could be discussed individually, subject to supervision capacity and university requirements. Eligibility for a particular science fair or programme must be checked separately.
